Podcast On Purpose: Youth Finding Their Voice
Recently, The Born on Purpose Project hosted another impactful Podcast On Purpose session in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County. The session brought together several of the organization’s “Littles” for a hands-on experience focused on podcast production, communication, storytelling, and confidence-building.

Led by R.O.P.E.S. mentor and podcast engineer Guil Dormeus, the youth were introduced to the behind-the-scenes world of podcasting and digital media production. During the session, participants learned how podcasts are structured, how production equipment works, and what it takes to direct and produce meaningful content. More importantly, they were encouraged to use their voices with confidence and intention.
Throughout the experience, the Littles practiced communication and storytelling skills that will benefit them far beyond the studio. They learned the importance of organizing their thoughts, actively listening, asking thoughtful questions, and expressing themselves clearly. These are skills that can positively impact them academically, socially, and professionally as they continue to grow into future leaders.

What made the session especially meaningful was watching the youth become more comfortable speaking, collaborating, and engaging with one another as the day progressed. For some participants, stepping in front of a microphone was completely outside of their comfort zone. By the end of the session, many were smiling, participating confidently, and excited about the creative process.
Podcast On Purpose continues to serve as more than just a media workshop. It creates exposure, builds confidence, strengthens mentorship relationships, and introduces youth to creative and professional opportunities they may not have previously considered. The environment allowed the Littles to feel supported, heard, and encouraged while learning real-world skills in a hands-on setting.
At The Born on Purpose Project, we believe exposure creates opportunity, and this session was another reminder that when youth are given the right environment, guidance, and encouragement, they rise to the occasion.
