Sunday Dinner: More Than a Meal

At The Born on Purpose Project, we believe some of the most meaningful conversations happen around the dinner table. Our recent Sunday Dinner experience through the R.O.P.E.S. mentoring program created a space where youth were not only served a meal, but were also poured into with purpose, guidance, creativity, and genuine connection.

The evening brought together youth and mentors from organizations including Piney Grove Academy, Girls in Christ, Ladies of Alpha & Omega, and Princess Mentorship Ministry for an intentional night centered around leadership, mentorship, and life skills. Youth participated in discussions about purpose, decision-making, leadership, and the importance of the choices they make today shaping the opportunities they experience tomorrow.

One of the most impactful parts of the evening was watching our mentors and team members personally take the youth’s dinner orders and serve them throughout the night. It was a simple act with a powerful message: you are seen, valued, and worthy of care. In a world that often moves too fast, we wanted the youth to experience what intentional attention, respect, and community support truly feels like.

The evening also included therapeutic arts and creative expression led by the incredible Creatively You Training Team, giving youth the opportunity to express themselves in healthy and meaningful ways. Through storytelling, creativity, and open dialogue, the room became a place of encouragement, reflection, laughter, and healing.

We also taught table etiquette and social interaction skills because we believe preparation matters. Exposure matters. Confidence matters. Sometimes the smallest lessons become the biggest building blocks for future leadership opportunities.

Special thanks to the Broward Sheriff's Office for sponsoring this impactful experience and helping us continue to create opportunities that remind youth they are supported by an entire community invested in their growth and future.

Sunday Dinner was never just about food. It was about connection, mentorship, exposure, and creating moments that young people will carry with them long after the evening ended.
